Rod Smith
(Sir John de Vere)

Rod is currently on sabbatical from re-enactment and having been active since 1988 is certainly entitled to it! A founding member of the Oxfords he always embraced all comers to the Household. Favouring sword and dagger he is a formidable presence on the field!

Sir John de Vere was the thirteenth Earl of Oxford and inherited his title when his father, also Sir John, and his elder brother Aubrey, were executed by the Butcher of England, Sir John Tiptoft. After years in exile, Sir John got his revenge when, as High Chamberlain of England, he authorised the beheading of Tiptoft in 1470. More can be read about Sir John de Vere in the History section of this site.
