(John Browne)
Steve has been re-enacting from before the dawn of time and has
been a member of several prestigious groups. He previously specialise in
the ecclesiastical aspects of the medieval period, but now days prefers to
fight on the field. He excels in all weapons.
John Browne
is ascribed in a source
as Johannes Browne Oxoniensis and it is consequently believed that he
served as a chaplain to the household of Sir John de Vere, whose chapel is
considered to have been one of the finest of its day. Whilst little is
known of Browne's life, his works attest his position as the greatest
English composer between Dunstaple and Taverner. Fifteen of Browne's works
are contained in the Eton |

Choirbook, a collection
of polyphonic antiphons in praise of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which was a
work compiled according to the statutes of Henry VI in 1440 on founding:
"the College Roiall of Our Ladie of Eton beside Windsor". The statutes
created by Henry VI required members of Eton College chapel choir to
assemble each evening before an image of the Virgin Mary and to sing an
antiphon in her honour: during Lent, Salve Regina settings from the
Choirbook would be performed. Browne's large contribution to the Eton
Choirbook reflects his reputation and importance. |
